The associate analyst will be part of a team responsible for monitoring, developing and implementing North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Standard compliance activities. NERC’s mission is to assure the effective and efficient reduction of risks to the reliability and security of the grid. The Junior Compliance Analyst supports the NERC Compliance Department and individual departmental Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) utilizing databases storing critical data and information supporting FERC, NERC, NPCC, ISO-NE, and local area regulations. This includes: preparing professional level documentation packages of critical data and information for submittal to regulators; supporting requests for data, analysis, and reports from internal and external groups; and supporting other NERC Compliance staff, as required, with any laws, rules and regulations that impact reliability of regional Bulk Electric System.

How you will make an impact

Provide support on assigned NERC standards, controls and best practices including the self-auditing of both the NERC Reliability and Critical Infrastructure Protection Standards.
In coordination with the Subject Matter Experts (SME), track and maintains supporting compliance strategies, processes, procedures, and documentation evidence.
Work with functional teams to coordinate FERC/NERC and other compliance activities across VELCO, including identifying and implementing systematic process improvements.
Participate in regulatory audit preparation activities across VELCO to ensure that potential non-compliance issues are identified and corrected.
Support internal assessments, which identifies, documents and implements process improvements focused on ensuring programmatic conformance and regulatory compliance. Identifies risks/weaknesses and propose actions to eliminate and/or mitigate the impacts of potential risks.
Works with administrators, SMEs, and other employees supporting the development, coordination and enhancement of internal controls to support VELCO-wide compliance obligations.
Monitors developing industry activities in preparation for future compliance related obligations. Initiates development of reliability compliance policies and procedures and supports SMEs in their updates/enhancements to meet new standard requirements on or before enforcement dates.
Support department during compliance audits, spot checks, and investigations.
Support development of training for employees on applicable compliance obligations and their roles and responsibilities.
Tracks and monitors all obligations and reporting requirements.
Daily utilization of software tracking program to enhance the overall compliance program.
Participates on internal incident investigation review to determine areas of improvement with a focus related to NERC compliance.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education & Training

An associates degree in Business, Accounting, Engineering, Information Technology, the sciences, mathematics or related discipline, or equivalent work experience is required, a bachelor’s degree is preferred.

Experience

This is a professional entry level position.

Physical/Mental Demands

Must be able to perform typical administrative functions which may involve long periods of keyboarding and periodically of scanning, filing, copying, etc. Must be able to maintain fast pace while completing complex, analytical work, in potentially stressful situations, with competing priorities, within tight timelines and with frequent interruptions. Must be able to work additional hours when necessary. Periodic travel and overnight stays will be required when attending industry workshops, trainings, etc.

VELCO's headquarters are located in Rutland, Vermont. This is a hybrid position and the expectation is that the incumbent will spend at least three days per week onsite and more as needed.
