Location: Remote with regular in-person business in Burlington and Montpelier, Vermont
Salary: $85,000–$105,000, commensurate with experience

The Opportunity
As Executive Director, you will lead both Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility and our Research and Education Foundation (VBSR-REF) to advance our mission. You will inspire VBSR members and the public toward VBSR’s vision of a just, thriving, and transformative economy that works for all people and the planet and embody VBSR’s values. This is a pivotal role that requires visionary leadership, strategic thinking, and a deep commitment to values-driven business practices. You'll oversee a dedicated team, advocate for innovative public policy, strengthen relationships with members and partners, and drive the organization’s financial success and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- People & Culture – Inspire and support staff, foster organizational culture, develop board and staff policies, and facilitate staff development and success.
- Public Relations – Represent VBSR to our members, partners, and the public, amplifying VBSR’s voice through media and speaking opportunities.
- Advocacy – Actively strengthen and support VBSR’s advocacy, leveraging our Public Policy Committee, board, staff, and membership to advance key policy issues.
- Fundraising – Develop and execute strategies to increase revenue through grants, donations, service contracts, event and program fees, membership dues, and sponsorship.
- Financial Management – Oversee an annual budget, ensuring sustainability through strategic planning, analysis, and reporting.
- Board Management – Partner with the Board of Directors in setting organizational priorities, strategies, and policies, and leverage the Board for membership growth.
- Operations – Modernize systems, policies, and workflows to streamline organizational effectiveness.
Required Skills & Experience
- At least 5 years in nonprofit or business management, with a focus on people management, strategic planning, operations planning, revenue generation, and financial oversight.
- Proven ability to grow revenue through fundraising or sales.
- Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to using business as a force for good.
- Demonstrated commitment to Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI).
Preferred Skills & Experience
- High level of familiarity with Vermont’s business landscape.
- High level of familiarity with Vermont’s public policy landscape.
- Experience with trade or membership associations.
