Join the Child Care Rapid Responders Team
If you're on the Let's Grow Kids mailing list, you may have heard from VBSR member Sam Hooper recently. He is the owner of Vermont Glove in Randolph.
They are a fast-growing company, but a small team with 12 employees in production. That means for them to compete with larger glove companies around the world, they must be extraordinarily thoughtful in their business strategy.
Sound familiar to anyone else out there?
Here's part of what Sam has to say about the importance of affordable, accessible child care:
"When we hire, it takes three months to train staff. Because of this, we put a lot of resources into employee retention. One hurdle as an employer that has been tough to overcome is the ongoing child care crisis; as a small business owner, I couldn’t operate a child care program for my employees, nor could I cut a check large enough to cover their child care expenses.
And that’s why I’m so grateful to you and your advocacy. Nearly two years ago, I shared with the Vermont Legislature that the child care crisis is one of the biggest barriers to my small business’ viability. But since Act 76 passed, thousands of families — including my employees — have accessed reduced child care costs, meaning they get to keep more of their hard-earned money."
This year, we must continue working together with our state lawmakers to build on the progress of Act 76. Sam is asking his fellow business owners to sign up for Rapid Response Alerts to stay on top of what's happening with child care at the State House.
