VBSR Volunteer Day & Networking Get-Together

Join Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility and the Vermont B Corp Collective for a day of volunteering and networking! We invite you to participate in a meaningful volunteer experience by helping various Vermont nonprofits with service projects ranging from gleaning to litter cleanup! 

VBSR’s Volunteer Day is open to all and is the perfect team bonding, making it a great way to spend time outdoors and use your volunteer time with your colleagues (or on your own) while supporting the local community.

  • Beach Cleanup with the Rozalia Project
  • Gleaning with Community Harvest of Central Vermont (CHCV)

  • Help at the Abenaki Tribal Garden

After the various volunteer events, we will all gather for a Networking Get-Together in Burlington at Foam Brewers from 4:00 – 6:00 PM! This is a wonderful chance to unwind, celebrate, and meet fellow volunteers!

You can find us at Foam Brewer’s tented back patio! There will be delicious beer, kombucha, and other alcoholic and non-alcoholic options available for purchase. Additionally, there will be food for purchase via Foam's Cheese and Charcuterie Menu.

Below are the different opportunities to volunteer! Review the details and sign up directly via the link below provided by each host organization. Volunteer slots are available on a first come, first served basis. We will do our best to update this page once an opportunity has been filled.


Trail Maintenance on the Sunset Ridge Trail with the Green Mountain Club

Details
: We'll perform trail maintenance on the Sunset Ridge Trail from Underhill State Park until it reaches treeline. You'll be performing maintenance to drain water off the trail and to protect trail structures like staircases or turnpikes. This trail maintenance is critical for preventing erosion and ensuring the long-term success of the trail system.

Participants should come prepared for a 3-5 mile hike in all weather conditions. Registered participants will receive a gear list prior to the work day. The work will be moderately strenuous, digging in the ground and moving brush and materials through the woods.


Volunteer for a Beach Cleanup with the Rozalia Project

Time: 2:00 – 4:00 PM

Location: North Beach & Rock Point in Burlington, VT.

Capacity: 30 people

Details: You will be guided to an area to pickup litter, with a focus on microplastics and large trash, to prevent it from getting into Lake Champlain. Rozalia Project will provide gloves, trash pickers, buckets, and trash bags.

After you clean, the Rozlia Project will compile the data for your cleanup. Cleanups make a difference, data makes a difference! Did you know that picking up just one plastic beverage bottle will keep 55,000 pieces of microplastic from ending up swirling around the ocean? And it only takes a few seconds. Every effort we all make to get marine debris off our shores and out of the water is important.


Volunteer to Glean with Community Harvest of Central Vermont (CHCV)

  • When you reach the Vermont Gleaning Collective calendar, scroll down to September 25th. Select “Berlin, VT 1PM
  • Once the “VBSR Group Volunteer Gleaning Project by CHCV” page opens, read the details and click “I’ll be there!” to RSVP.

Details: Depending on the need at the time, volunteers will either be doing a sorting project at CHCV’s Berlin facility, or you will glean at a local farm with in 30 min of Berlin. Details will be emailed the week of the project to those who have RSVPed. We hope you will join us in helping EVERYONE have access to fresh local food!


Volunteer for Community Sorting and Packing with Vermont Foodbank

Instructions to Register

  • At the top of the screen, navigate to Events. Create an account.
  • When prompted for a join code, enter VBSR (please note all letters are capitalized) – It is important that you enter the join code as if you do not you will be hung up in the application process.
  • Fill out our Volunteer Application. Scroll down to the date of the event that you are volunteering for (Thursday, September 25, 2025) and click on the event you are volunteering for – “Barre Warehouse: Sort and Pack” and then either AM or PM shift. If you want to volunteer all day, you’ll need to register for BOTH time slots.
  • Click the green “sign up” button
  • Review event information.
  • Click the green “Finish” button

Time: AM Shift 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM, PM Shift 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM

Details:
Join the Vermont Foodbank at one of our three facilities with sorting and packing food for community organizations and food shelves, building boxes of food, sorting donated product, or possibly pre-bagging produce. Volunteers need to be at least 16 years of age or older to pack and sort food. Volunteers must be able to lift at least 20 pounds and stand for 2 hours.


Volunteer at the Abenaki Tribal Garden

Details: Support the Ko’asek Traditional Band’s Abenaki Tribal Garden where you are invited to help Chief Shirly and Doug harvest squash, corn, beans, and finish projects around the garden. This is an opportunity to connect with the land and learn about local foodways. There will be food and you’re welcome to bring some to share as we work and celebrate together.
