Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity (GMHFH)
To make the dream of affordable homeownership achievable, Green Mountain Habitat partners with local families, financial donors, and community volunteers to build safe, energy-efficient, affordable homes. Through these partnerships, we aim to give families
a hand-up (not a handout) to a better life. Founded in 1984, Green Mountain Habitat has partnered with over 126 families to build safe, decent, and perpetually affordable homes. These families represent the backbone of our local economies, including teachers, healthcare workers, and tradespeople.
While building is at the heart of what we do, we also advocate for better housing policy in Vermont, promote dignity and hope, build youth skills and employability in construction, and support local economic development in communities across Northwestern Vermont.
Over the past 40 years, Green Mountain Habitat has positioned itself to rise to the challenge of Vermont’s affordable housing crisis and its impact on the ability of low income working families to purchase a home. Through a combination of land purchases,
grants, and individual donations, Green Mountain Habitat has secured properties to build 46 permanently affordable homes in Chittenden, Franklin, Grand Isle, and Lamoille counties over the next 5-10 years. This includes a series of multi-home projects in Hinesburg, Williston, South Burlington, and Underhill. Our goal is to place at least 10 families a year in affordable homes from 2027 onwards.
