VBSR Members Resolute in Values Commitment, Urge Collective Action

As Americans, Vermonters, and business leaders, this is a disorienting moment. Recent federal actions have had a tremendous impact on Vermont's businesses, communities, and economy.

As members of Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility (VBSR), we also draw tremendous strength from the philosophy and practice of “business as a force for good,” and invite you to join us in leveraging the power of business for positive impact.

For over 35 years VBSR has helped our members thrive through “unprecedented” moments. We have witnessed different leadership styles – in both business and government – come and go. We have seen market trends and policy agendas swell and fade. Through it all, we have continued to stand for a just, thriving, and transformative economy that works for all people and the planet, and we have leveraged our spheres of influence to drive meaningful change.

Our collective experience has demonstrated that during times of disruption, businesses can draw upon their values and commitment to social responsibility to deliver both positive social impact and business resilience. Vermont businesses have consistently modeled this leadership – and will continue to do so.

We are family- and employee-owned growers and makers; home-grown to global powerhouse brands; innovation icons and category starters hatched right here in the Green Mountains. We are Forward-Thinking. Innovative. Pragmatic. Resourceful. Community-Oriented.

Responsible business isn’t just good for our employees, our communities, and our planet; it’s good for our businesses and economy. We are living proof of this, as is the growing amount of data and research further supporting our movement. For instance, according to the Association of Corporate Citizenship Professionals’ latest report, ninety percent of investors believe companies should have positive social and environmental impacts and 71% of employees expect their employer to have positive community impacts.

We also know that we are far more effective when traveling this road together, and there truly is strength in numbers. In a moment when it may seem prudent to put on blinders, we refuse.

If our resoluteness resonates with you, we invite you to join our growing network of 600 Vermont businesses. Now is the time. Wherever you are on your business journey, VBSR provides what so many of us need right now: access to information and resources; peer-driven solutions; the power of community; and hope.

In these times of uncertainty, we can be more powerful together, and we want to include YOU in our movement - leaning into our values and leading our state toward an equitable, sustainable, and prosperous future through advocacy, education, networking, and thought leadership. Whatever is on the other side of this moment, VBSR is not waiting for it. We are shaping it. Come be a part of what we are building at https://vbsr.org/join-vbsr.
