VBSR Board

The VBSR Board of Directors is responsible for:

  • hiring and supervising the executive director,
  • establishing policies,
  • establishing committees, and
  • generally overseeing VBSR.

The bylaws authorize a board of up to twenty members.

The board meets four times a year.  One of the meetings is usually a daylong retreat.

Board Terms

Board members serve three-year terms, staggered so that no more than 1/3 of the members are up for election in any year.  There are no term limits.

To vote in the 2007 election of the Board of Directors, please download the ballot (112 Kb)and return by November 10, 2007 to VBSR, via mail, fax, or email.

Committees

All VBSR members are eligible to serve on the board.

Nomination Process

  1. Early every year a “Call for Nominations” is sent to all VBSR members, asking members to nominate themselves or other people they feel could contribute as board members.
  2. The Board-appointed nominating committee meets to consider the nominations as well as other prospective board members.  The committee looks for a balance on the board of the following factors:
    • gender,
    • geographic location,
    • company size,
    • business sector, and
    • skills and interests.
A demonstrated commitment to the mission and principles of VBSR is also important.
  3. The nominating committee holds interviews, and reviews the above factors based on those interviews as well as the applications of each nominee.
  4. By late spring the committee comes up with a recommended list of new members (a "slate" ) to recommend to the full board, which then can approve or change the slate.
  5. Once the board approves the slate, a ballot with the names of the nominees and brief biographies is sent to all VBSR members.
  6. Members vote by ballot or in person at the annual meeting, usually held in October at the annual Fall Conference.
  7. After the annual meeting in odd-numbered years the newly elected board organizes itself and chooses its own officers for terms of two years.
