Vt House Speaker Mitzi Johnson on women, leadership & Trump – Part 1

Speaker of the House Mitzi Johnson was first elected to the Grand Isle-Chittenden seat in the Vt House of Reps in 2002 and has been re-elected 8 times. She served on the House Agriculture Comm for a decade on the House Appropriations Committee, including as its chair. In 2016, Johnson was elected Speaker of the Vt House. She is only the third female Speaker in Vt history, and is one of 6 women currently serving as House Speakers around the country. We spend the hour with Speaker Johnson discussing the key political issues in the current legislature including abortion, the $15 minimum wage and paid family leave and the state of her working relationship with Gov. Phil Scott after a rocky 2018. She also discusses her thoughts on the unique challenges facing women in leadership and the impact of the Trump presidency on Vermont politics.
