The Vermont Intern Program is funded by the State of Vermont, with the goal of introducing college students and recent graduates to the diversity of career opportunities in the state. Any of the following individuals are eligible: students currently matriculated in an undergraduate or graduate degree at a Vermont College or University, from Vermont and enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree out of state, or any recent graduate up to two years post graduation currently living in Vermont. You do not have to be a member of Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility to participate.
Our list of AVAILABLE INTERNSHIPS is updated regularly, and includes a variety of sectors, skill levels, locations and levels of responsibility. All internships in Senator Sanders office are paid. Please do not contact the employer directly until you have submitted your application.
The employers who use our program do so with the understanding that we will refer applicants to them. We appreciate your participation in this process as outlined below. It is designed to give you the best chance possible of getting an internship. Contacting employers directly only reduces the number of people we can count as having served, and inhibits our ability to secure future funding for this program. Thank you!
Update your resume, and draft any required materials, such as a cover letter addressed to the employer.
A good cover letter is concise, customized to the position, and addresses the following questions:
Which position are you applying for?
How is this particular internship connected to your professional goals?
How do you connect with the employer’s mission?
What makes you qualified for this particular internship? (Reference the qualifications they seek)
If not detailed in your resume, how/where did you learn these skills?
What personal strengths would be valuable to an employer or a team?
Visit our INTERN TOOLBOX for templates, tips and search tools.
Use the following naming conventions: CoverLetter_FirstNameLastName and Resume_FirstNameLastName and save the documents as pdf files. Be sure to double check for errors and accuracy!!
Fill out the referral form below, which collects your contact information and will redirect you to the link to apply via Senator Sanders Office. Note: It is your responsibility to complete the application process!
We will follow-up Senator Sanders’ staff to confirm you submitted an application through their application portal.
If you get an internship, please let us know! Any intern placed through our program is eligible for a FREE Student membership to Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility (VBSR). In addition, our funding from the State of Vermont requires us to track interns placed through our program. Employers do not always notify us of intern hires, so your communication is greatly appreciated.
