VBSR Announces resignation of Executive Director Jane Campbell

After years of service, career non-profit leader and advocate Campbell exits Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility

After serving as the Executive Director for Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility (VBSR) for 14 years, Jane Campbell will be resigning her position to embark on the next chapter of her career. Campbell served as Executive Director of VBSR from 1992 – 2002, then returned to lead the organization in February of 2016 (during the period of 2002-2015, Campbell was the Executive Director of Copley Hospital Foundation and Development Director of the Vermont Historical Society). She will continue to work closely with the staff and Executive Committee of VBSR to plan for a smooth leadership transition.

“This role has been wonderful and inspiring, and on a personal level, it’s been deeply satisfying to effect changes for urgent issues facing our communities and environment,” said Campbell in a statement to members, “This has been a difficult decision for me, because I feel that VBSR is doing such essential work, and because I will be leaving some of the finest people I’ve ever known, who continually inspire me as they use their businesses to create positive change. However, I feel that it’s a good time for VBSR to transition to new leadership.”

During her first tenure at the helm, VBSR became a major player in Vermont’s political landscape, advocating for livable jobs, universal healthcare, climate action and sustainable development legislation. Under her leadership, the organization also created a sister 501(c)3 non-profit organization for research and education and more than quadrupled in membership, growing from 80 members to 365. VBSR now has more than 700 business members, finding success through leading social change.

Over the past four years Campbell oversaw the transformation of VBSR’s communication and membership systems leading to an expanded reach and depth in the business community, and led the growth of their program offerings to better serve the leading-edge issues of Vermont companies – including the launch of the Measure What Matters intensive workshop series. She strengthened VBSR’s voice on public policy issues, advancing major successes such as ban the box, paid earned sick-days, and clean water funding – among others. Campbell leaves the soon to be 30-year-old organization in a strong position for growth and expanded impact.

“For 28 years VBSR has been the leading voice for a sustainable ethic in Vermont that recognizes the opportunity and responsibility of the business community, and Jane’s contributions have been critical to our success”, said Markey Read, Chair of the VBSR Board of Directors, “We are excited to enter this new chapter as an organization and know that we will continue to evolve and prosper under new future leadership.”

VBSR has begun their search for the next Executive Director, more information can be found here.
