Two VBSR Members Working Together to Deliver Meals to the Homeless during Stay Safe, Stay Home

An update from Anna Grearson at Union Mutual:

Union Mutual, a property-casualty insurance carrier founded in 1874 in Montpelier, VT on the premise of neighbors helping neighbors, has been purchasing 100 meals/week from two local restaurants: Pinky’s on State and Langdon Street Tavern. These two well-loved establishments have then donated the meals to our neighbors in need: LST to the Good Samaritan Haven, which has expanded its operations to help our homeless neighbors stay safe during the Stay Safe, Stay Home orders and Pinky’s to Barre Gardens workers and today plans to deliver to Mayo Healthcare in Northfield, and Heaton Woods on Wednesday.

In response to Union’s posting about these projects on social media, our neighbors at National Life Group have graciously, enthusiastically and generously partnered with us and have agreed to double our purchases, resulting in an additional 200 meals per week to our central Vermont neighbors – exactly the domino effect we thought may be possible. This combined support is helping keep employees working at both Pinky’s and LST while providing nutritious meals to those who need them.

This isn’t about Union and National Life, it’s about what’s possible when we work together – those who can help, helping those who need it. The combined benefit to two of our favorite lunch spots impacted by the absence of workers in the downtown every day, and to our neighbors in need, has been rewarding and inspiring in this time of uncertainty.

Should you wish to do a story, and hopefully land another domino or two in this creative way to doubly support local, I can be reached at this email, AGrearson@unionmutual.com, or by cell, 802-272-7184.
