The Point to Point Celebrates 20 Years and Over $2,000,000 Raised to Fight Hunger
VSECU and The Vermont Foodbank recognize 20 years of riding, running, and fundraising on the State House Lawn
MONTPELIER, VT, AUGUST 7, 2021 – Today, VSECU and the Vermont Foodbank celebrated 20 years of the Point to Point, powered by VSECU, a cycling and running event to raise funds and awareness to fight hunger in Vermont. Through this iconic summer event, thousands of caring participants have raised over $2,000,000 and helped to provide more than 3.3 million meals to Vermonters in need.
At the celebration on the State House Lawn, VSECU and the Vermont Foodbank announced that over $102,000 has been added to that total so far this year. Fundraising continues for the next two weeks. Donations can be made online at thepointtopoint.org.
VSECU supported the event for years with volunteer and riding teams and then adopted the lead organizing role in 2018.
“The Vermont Foodbank is proud to honor VSECU and the Point to Point for once again showing up to help people in Vermont facing hunger,” said John Sayles, CEO of the Vermont Foodbank. “Two million dollars raised over the last 20 years of Point to Point has helped to feed thousands of our neighbors. To all the participants, volunteers, donors, sponsors and our friends at VSECU, thank you. You’ve shown how incredibly powerful collaboration and community are in taking care of each other here in Vermont.”
“Our mission as a credit union is to improve the lives of all Vermonters. Helping people in our community by contributing to essential needs, such as food, is one important piece of that,” said Rob Miller, CEO of VSECU. “We’re proud to sponsor and organize the Point to Point each year to support the Vermont Foodbank. With one in three Vermonters needing to use emergency food services over the past year, hunger is an issue that affects all of us—and takes all of us to fight.”
The 2021 Point to Point, powered by VSECU, is presented thanks to the support of the event’s sponsors: Harpoon Brewery, The Point FM, Cabot Creamery, Hanover Food Co-Op, Hunger Mountain Co-Op, FISERV, King Arthur Flour, Athena Health, National Life Group, VT Sports magazine, WCAX, Minute Man Press, Vermont Artisan Coffee and Tea, Pure Energy Apothecary, Vermont Smoke & Cure, Ceres Natural Remedies, and Trētap Organic Sparkling Tree Water.
