Deadline Extended: Mortgage Assistance Program for Vermonters

The Vermont Legislature has approved $5 million for Vermont homeowners who have struggled to make their mortgage payments during the last few months as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The program will provide up to three monthly mortgage payments directly to the servicer of the mortgage with a goal of preventing future foreclosure.

Vermont Housing Finance Agency (VHFA) is administering the program, but it is available to any homeowner who meets the eligibility criteria, and is not just for VHFA mortgage borrowers.

The deadline was previously August 31st , but has been extended.  However, we’re encouraging people to apply as soon as possible since funding is limited.  Apply on our website: https://www.vhfa.org/map/.

VT Legal Aid also has a hotline for people who have questions at (800) 889-2047. There is a separate program for renters available through the Vermont State Housing Authority.
