Members Championing Change: Magic Hat Brewing Company

Since it’s inception in 1994, craft beer legend Magic Hat Brewing Company has not only paved the way for Vermont’s iconic beer industry, but, while doing so set a strong example of community engagement & environmental responsibility. Magic Hat has cleaned and recycled 7,000,000 gallons of wastewater annually and generated 40-50 % of their electrical needs from their waste through the company’s digester. In 2018 Magic Hat donated nearly 800 hours of paid employee time to volunteer efforts and donated nearly 80,000 to non-profits in 2019 through beer collaborations, like Barroom Hero with the Dropkick Murphys, and special event collaborations, like the South End Art Hop. For over 10 years, they have worked closely with the Vermont Foodbank, H.O.P.E. Works, Big Heavy World and the Lake Champlain Committee. While creating a workplace culture of fun, exuberance, & creativity and concocting tasty beverages, Magic Hat has shown a deep, long lasting commitment to Vermont’s environment, their employees and community.

“From the inception of our brewery more than 25 years ago, we’ve been on a mission to brew fantastic beer while keeping a close eye on our community, its needs and what we can give back that will have the greatest positive impact. Vermont has given us so much over the years that we feel indebted to pay it forward.” Schuyler Blackman, Head of Imagination and Formulation Relations
