Local Organizations to Host Food and Necessities Drive for At-risk Neighbors

Montpelier, Vermont National Life Group and The Vermont Agency are joining forces to help those who are struggling by hosting a food and necessities drive on the Maple Tree Place green in Williston.

“We’re happy to come together with National Life to help our neighbors during this difficult time,” said Megan Hand, Financial Advisor with The Vermont Agency who is hosting the event. “It’s inspiring to see how communities step up to help the most vulnerable.”

During the pandemic, hunger has been steadily increasing. A recently released research study from University of Vermont found a 68% increase in food pantry usage between March and June.

Donations will be collected from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 26. Specific items needed include nonperishable, unexpired canned food including fruit, vegetables, tuna, beans, soup, pasta, pasta sauce, peanut butter, applesauce, protein shakes and bars, feminine hygiene products, toiletries, and cleaning supplies. All donations collected will stock the shelves at the Do Good Cupboard in Montpelier and the Community Cupboard in Barre.

Donations will be accepted as a contactless drop-off. As a thank you, donors will receive access to a limited edition gift as well as be entered into a raffle for gift cards to local businesses.
