City Market Awards $35,000 in Co-op Seedling Grants to 5 Vermont Non-Profits

Burlington, VT — City Market is excited to invite members of the media to visit our South End store on Friday, March 25th at 10am to congratulate our 2021 Co-op Seedling Grant recipients and launch our 2022 Grant process.

This year’s Co-op Seedling Grant program was funded through City Market’s successful Rally for Change program. The Rally for Change program offers customers the opportunity to round up their totals at the register and the Co-op donates the money to three different local non-profits each month. A committee of Co-op Members review the applications each year and makes a recommendation to the Board of Directors on which projects to fund. This grant season, the Member Grants Committee received 7 applications totaling over $49,000 in funding requests. The Board approved $35,000 in total grants to 5 non-profits.

The following organizations have been selected to receive 2021 grants:

  • Community Health Centers of Burlington: Farm Share Program
  • Common Roots: Farmstand at the Food Shelf Program
  • Boys & Girls Club of Burlington: Multicultural Food Program
  • Age Well: Meals on Wheels for Older Vermonters
  • Milk With Dignity Standards Council: Improving Indoor Air Quality in Farmworker Housing

Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger and Secretary of Agriculture, Food & Markets, Anson Tebbetts are confirmed guests and will share opening remarks. Representatives from each of the grantee organizations will be available to share more details about their unique projects. City Market will also provide information to kick off the 2022 Co-op Seedling Grants application process.

John Tashiro, City Market’s General Manager, shared his excitement for this program now entering its ninth year, “We’re excited to welcome folks onsite for the first time since our 2019 Award Ceremony for this outdoor event. This event is a great way to honor the work of local non-profits as well as the Grant Committee made up of Co-op Members who worked together to select this year’s recipients. As a Co-op, we are very proud that our Members and customers have continued to support our Rally for Change program which fund these grants.”
