Call to Artists: Teach Art in Horsford’s Spectacular Landscape

Charlotte, Vermont, March 10, 2020 – Horsford Gardens and Nursery is welcoming artists to teach their own custom classes in its Art in the Garden series. There is no cost to use the nursery for a workshop, nor does Horsford’s receive any portion of class cost. Vermont and New York arts organizations are encouraged to share this call to artists with their member networks, grant recipients, and colleagues.

In its second year, Art in the Garden is a summer-long program that features a variety of artists and art media. Artists can offer their participants a memorable experience through single sessions, or multiple sessions over time. Classes or workshops are surrounded by a variety of plants, maintained display gardens, and nursery growing fields. There are plenty of mature trees, ever-blooming gardens, and historic structures to inspire art workshops.

Courses should be conducive and flexible to working in the outdoors. There are naturally-shaded, wooded, and sunny lawn areas for participants to work peacefully in nature. An historic Carriage Barn is available in case of wind or rain. Juried artists will schedule, advertise, and run their classes independently from Horsford’s.

Examples of concepts of workshops – by no means limited to the following:

Botanical illustration, Watercolor painting, Photography, Basket weaving, Clay hand-building, Poetry, Cartoon & comic drawing, Oil painting, Woodblock print, Botanical dyeing, Plein air painting.

“Each year photographers, water colorists, and other painters request permission to use Horsford’s grounds,” say owners Eileen Schilling and Charlie Proutt. “We’re pleased to encourage even more art in the garden by inviting artists to teach classes here.”

Complete information on this call to artists, and a short application to lead a course are available at www.horsfordnursery.comApplications are due by April 1, 2020. The team at Horsford’s will notify artists if their courses are selected by April 9, 2020.
