Local First Vermont is a program of Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility. Our mission is to preserve and enhance the economic, human, and natural vitality of Vermont communities by promoting the importance of purchasing from locally owned independent businesses.
The main goals of Local First Vermont are to:
- educate consumers about the importance of buying local
- promote locally owned businesses in Vermont
- give Vermonters incentives to buy local
- strengthen Vermont communities
The Buy Local Resource Guide and Coupon Book is the signature project of Local First Vermont. The current book includes 230+ coupons valued at over $3,000 at some of Vermont’s finest locally owned businesses – many of whom are VBSR members. The book also includes resource pages that highlight merchant profiles, local stories and explain why it’s important to buy local.
VBSR sells about 6,000 books each year through local retailers and school group fundraisers. In 2016, you’ll see that the book includes more of Vermont, and you can now use the coupons from your smartphone or tablet, with the Local First Vermont Mobile App. The book and the app each sell for $20, and the coupons are good from September 1 through August 31.
