Temporary GIS Technician | Contract
Vermont Electric Cooperative (VEC), the largest locally owned electric distribution utility in Vermont, is seeking a Temporary Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician. This individual will provide support to various projects that enhance the use of VEC’s GIS systems for its end-users. This is a full-time position that will last for approximately 16 weeks between the months of April and August. The individual can choose their 8-hour workday schedule between the hours of 7:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday. There is possibility of performing remote work.
The individual in this role will apply their knowledge of GIS/Mapping Software to enter utility data into the GIS and Vegetation Management systems. They will work closely with VEC’s current GIS Team to perform updates, additions and edits to the maps. They will utilize their attention to detail skills to ensure the integrity of the system and deliver accurate information to end-users that count on it. They will apply their strong analytical skills to collect infrastructure data and organize information according to current IT protocol.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
This position requires completed coursework or experience working with ArcGIS or other GIS software. They should be proficient with the Microsoft Office; specifically, Word and Excel. Database management experience is a plus!
VEC is seeking a self-motivated individual who enjoys supporting a technology employee’s count on to deliver good member service. The individual in this position should have the ability to communicate and collaborate with remote workers. They must be self-directed and able to function well with minimal supervision. They should possess the ability to communicate highly complex information to others in a way that is clear and understandable for the end user. They should also be able to interact with others effectively in project collaborations and information gathering.
