Senior Accountant | Full Time

Planned Parenthood of Northern New England (PPNNE) is seeking candidates for a full time, 37.5 hours/ week, Senior Accountant  position based in Colchester, VT. The Senior Accountant will perform a variety of accounting functions related to business operations and prepare accurate monthly financial statements in a timely manner. This position is responsible for providing financial information to
various management staff and groups and creates several spreadsheets/reports for financial analysis.

CHARACTERISTIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Prepare/distribute quarterly financial variance analysis tool and budget projection kit to managers, including consolidating results and ensuring accuracy of data for the CFO’s review
    • Produce various recurring reports to support agency decision-making including monthly/YTD/future financial projections, and assure their distributed in a timely manner
    • Various aspects of the annual budget process including preparation of budget kits, providing annual budgets for all centrally budgeted line items, entering budget info into the accounting system, tracking and entering data for various budget revisions, distributing and posting the budget, and providing budget reports to department managers and senior leadership
    • Recurring/ad-hoc reporting and analysis from the Practice Management system to facilitate revenue recognition in the Accounting system
    • Maintaining extensive tracking spreadsheets comparing actual grant expenditures in relation to the grant budget, and communicating balances and discrepancies to grant managers accordingly
    • Generate budgets for federal, state, and foundation grants and prepare financial reports for grants as required by the agreements, as well as ad-hoc state/federal reporting as requested
    • Act as a liaison on grant issues between Finance and other departments/grant managers
    • Monitor and reconcile various general ledger accounts
    • Assist with maintaining bank accounts, merchant accounts, and PPNNE business credit card accounts, and help with staff needs related to banking and merchant processing
    • Process requests for certificates of insurance relating to PPNNE’s various insurance coverages
    • Update/document processes and procedures pertinent to the Senior Accountant position
    • Help maintain the Accounting Department page on PPNNE’s intranet, including expense forms, chart of accounts, cost-center list, cost allocations, and staff on boarding for finance related tasks
    • Assist in year-end audit preparation process
    • Perform various internal audits as required
    • Prepare, review, and adjust monthly financial statements
    • Perform other Accounting Department tasks as assigned to support the team as needed
    • Cross train in all financial systems/tasks as back-up
    • Assist with special projects, initiatives, and system/process improvements as needed
    • Assist Accounting Manager and CFO as needed
    • Be willing to ask questions, think creatively, challenge colleagues in an attempt to be part of a successful team
    • Become familiar with, and be able to comfortably discuss, all services provided by PPNNE

    • Demonstrate flexibility and teamwork; understand that staffing needs and schedules fluctuate, which will require a flexible work schedule and/or additional work hours; be willing to listen and contribute to department, site, and agency discussions and decision-making; incorporate customer satisfaction into all aspects of operation

QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting/business plus 3-5 years of relevant experience required; or an equivalent combination of education/experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired
    • Demonstrated ability to pay strict attention to detail, with a commitment to display a positive attitude, and willingness to work effectively and efficiently within an environment where priorities constantly change
    • Proficient use of Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams…); Intermediate to advanced Excel preferred
    • Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge accounting software desirable
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently with ease and take ownership of assigned tasks or projects
    • Good organizational and communication skills
    • Ability to deal effectively with a wide range of individuals
    • Commitment to team orientation and customer service/satisfaction
    • Flexibility, initiative, creative thinking, and a willingness to learn required
    • Knowledge of fund accounting preferred
    • Demonstrated understanding of and comfort with all services provided by PPNNE
    • Ability to key stroke for up to 6 hours and sit for up to 7 hours a day
    • Ability to operate all normal office equipment

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

    • The range of pay for this position is $26.01/hr to $37.14/hr based on experience.  Access to benefits are available including health, dental, vision insurance, paid time off and retirement fund.
