Do you have a passion and drive to apply your talents to make a difference? Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity is seeking a ReStore Director to support its mission of helping local families build strength, stability, and self-reliance through affordable homeownership.
Summary:
The ReStore Director oversees the operations of stores in Williston, Milton, and Swanton. The ReStores are nonprofit thrift stores that accept donated items and sell them to the public to raise money for affordable home building in Northwestern Vermont. The ideal candidate for this position is an experienced individual with multi-store management experience or senior level management experience and a desire to continue to cultivate a successful management team. This position requires both education and experience, or extended time spent in a comparable role, to lead our dynamic, growing stores to the next level. This is a unique opportunity to work with a mission driven organization where volunteers and staff are working together to help change the lives of local families in need.
Primary Responsibilities:
Resource Development
- Reach out and develop relationships with corporate and business donors to solicit in-kind donations and generate new and ongoing streams of revenue for the ReStores.
- Interact with media representatives as appropriate and approved.
- Benchmark with successful multi-ReStore affiliates with the goal of enhancing GMHFH ReStore’s best practices.
Leadership and Management
- Develop and implement single year fiscal plans and multi-year strategic plans to reach revenue growth targets, cost targets, and net profit goals.
- Develop and monitor policies and procedures for store operations with a focus on safety, workplace behavior, customer service, and store cleanliness and organization.
- Collaborate with the Leadership Team and the Board of Directors to align ReStore goals with strategic objectives.
- Schedule and organize weekly meetings with store management teams to ensure that policies are implemented across the ReStores and goals are being met.
Store Operations
- Oversee retail operations to create a positive experience for shoppers and a safe and efficient workspace for employees.
- Maintain working knowledge of best practices, industry developments, customer needs, and competition.
- Leverage marketing and CRM database to cultivate repetitive, high-value business donors within the building material supply, construction, and furniture industries.
- Administer the utilization of volunteer time in the ReStores and be aware of volunteer needs and concerns to ensure a positive experience. Assist in resolving any situations with the appropriate staff members.
- Supervise conditions of facilities and equipment and organize any needed maintenance to ensure a safe environment for ReStore staff and visitors.
- Manage recycling programs, including scrap metal, cardboard recycling, and other waste.
- Build and maintain a strong affiliate presence in the ReStores by working with the Marketing Manager to increase the visibility of GMHFH’s mission and values.
- Support succession planning and career development for store managers and assistant store managers.
- Develop and utilize operational metrics to identify areas for ReStore improvement and create a cycle of continuous improvement.
- Ensure that all ReStores are compliant with the Habitat International Quality Assurance Checklist.
Financial Management
- Develop and manage individual store budgets alongside the CEO, Finance Committee, and ReStore Managers, considering profit margins, sales per square foot, last to current year sales comparisons, donation and volunteer growth metrics, and inventory management.
- Lead managers and assistant managers through the budgeting process and help them reach for and exceed budget objectives by managing discretionary spending, influencing operational and labor efficiencies, and maximizing margin through pricing, discounting, and merchandising strategies.
- Ensure compliance with all financial reporting and control practices. Work with ReStore Managers to create and monitor systems for daily cash transactions and deposits.
- Maintain inventory and product sales records and analysis.
Qualifications
Desired Education and Experience
- Four-year degree in supply chain, operations management, retail merchandising, business administration, or similar field preferred, may be substituted by relevant experience.
- 5-7 years of ethical leadership and management experience, preferably in a senior retail management capacity.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
