Complete Streets Program Intern | Part Time

Internship Summary: 

Through the Complete Streets Program, Local Motion staff provide technical assistance to municipalities, advocacy groups, schools, and other local, regional, and statewide partners working to make Vermont a better place to walk, bike, and roll. This internship is focused on analysis and presentation of data from Local Motion’s 2022 Chittenden County Active Transportation Survey. The intern may also assist Complete Streets Program staff with other work, potentially to include providing support for walk/bike committees around the state, developing community walk/bike action plans and surveys, drafting advocacy emails and other communications, and other tasks. This internship can be tailored to the intern’s individual areas of interest and expertise, but will center on the Active Transportation Survey data analysis and presentation. The work will be done mostly remotely with weekly check-ins with the Complete Streets Program Manager.

 

Duties/Responsibilities

Duties to include, but are not limited to:

  • Analyze data from Local Motion’s 2022 Chittenden County Active Transportation Survey with particular attention to differences in response from demographic groups
  • Develop (and potentially deliver) presentation(s) on the Active Transportation Survey
  • Support Local Motion staff with various walk/bike advocacy and technical assistance projects including working with walk/bike committees and municipalities
  • Assist with other projects as needed

Required Skills/Abilities 

  • Expertise with spreadsheets (Google Sheets/Microsoft Excel)
  • Proven ability to analyze data and create graphs, charts, and other visualizations
  • Proficiency with  creating aesthetically pleasing presentations
  • Ability to work independently and well as part of a team
  • Good communication skills for delivering a presentation to a group
  • Proven organizational skills, attention to detail, and setting priorities
  • Passion for walking and biking and for Local Motion’s mission and programs
  • Previous coursework, experience, or interest in statistics, sustainable transportation planning, environmental studies, economics, or political science
  • Must have own laptop to use during internship

Internship is February through May/June.  Minimum 5 hours per week.
