Hours: 10-15 hours per week
(combination remote & in office)
Stipend: $500/month (taxable)

Position Summary
Hunger Free Vermont is looking for an intern to assist and support Hunger Free Vermont’s
communications efforts, including a website redesign which is currently underway. This intern will
support and assist our Program Communications Specialist in creation and dissemination of
communications materials, to help connect Vermonters to important food assistance programs and
to raise awareness of the solutions for ending hunger.
Duties will primarily focus on supporting our website redesign, website maintenance, social media,
and improving/creating communications systems.
The intern will report directly to Hunger Free Vermont’s Program Communications Specialist but
will have the opportunity to engage with other Hunger Free Vermont staff who have technical
expertise in a wide range of anti-hunger programs. This will provide the opportunity to learn more
about the anti-hunger system at the local, state, and federal levels.
In addition to this systems-level education, and increased understanding of hunger in Vermont and
solutions to ending hunger, the intern will gain direct experience in:
● Website Development
● Copywriting/copyediting
● Communications strategies/framing/narrative change
● Social Media marketing
Note: Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Hunger Free Vermont staff are primarily working remotely
at this time. As restrictions on in-person gatherings are lifted, the person filling this position will
need to work at least some hours each week in our offices in South Burlington.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
● Support the redesign of the Hunger Free Vermont website
● Audit and clean-up of our three websites (Hunger Free Vermont’s full website, Vermont
Food Help, and our Universal School Meals Campaign Website)
● Maintenance of recent news and event pages
● Social media development/support
● Auditing the HFVT Youtube channel and exploring best practices
● Researching/implementing email marketing best practices (including re-engagement and
welcome series, list cleaning, and donor engagement)
Position Requirements
Minimum Experience:
● MS Office Suite/Google Suite proficiency
● Ability to honor confidentiality and to follow protocols for storing and using confidential
● Proficiency in reading and writing in English
● Interest in Hunger Free Vermont’s philosophy, mission, and vision
● Knowledge of and sensitivity toward the needs and concerns of low-income individuals and
those serving people struggling to meet their basic needs
● Interest in working with others to make change in a system or institution to advance and
promote social and racial justice.
● Commitment to a team orientation and willingness to give and receive feedback with

● Self-motivated, good organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task and
meet deadlines
● Firm grasp of available tools and platforms in the social media space
● Experience with Squarespace
● Previous internship or related experience in marketing or communications
Working Conditions & Physical Demands

● Internal Work Conditions: In-office work is performed in a climate controlled office
environment with no exposure to hazardous materials/conditions. There is a moderate level
of noise from office equipment (phone, copier, etc) and an open office layout.
● Physical Demands:
○ Regular, predictable attendance is required
○ Must be able to work in an office environment and operate a computer and phone
for extended periods of time
○ Work may include occasionally moving objects up to 20 pounds
