VEIC is hiring an executive position to focus on our strategic growth and impact as we pursue our mission to be a leader in decarbonization!

Job Summary:

Working directly with the CEO, and as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the Chief Growth Officer (CGO) is a pivotal role leading VEIC’s transformative work to become the leader in decarbonization programs and services by developing a strong sustainable business growth strategy, forging new and innovative strategic partnerships, and raising VEIC’s profile nationally. The CGO will partner extensively across the organization to ensure internal alignment with the strategy, oversee VEIC’s full service creative and digital team to ensure we are developing best in class creative solutions, lead VEIC’s Business Development and Sales Managers, and proposal writers, and mentor key staff in Energy Services with business development responsibilities.

Essential Functions:

  • Serve on VEIC’s Senior Leadership Team, helping steer internal alignment related to targeted revenue growth, external market dynamics, and customer/client needs
  • Develop business growth strategy for all VEIC, resulting in new work for VEIC’s Energy Efficiency Utilities (Efficiency Vermont, DC Sustainable Energy Utility, and Efficiency Smart) and for Energy Services
  • Partner with Senior Leadership Team members and with Managing Directors of Efficiency Vermont, DC Sustainable Energy Utility, and Energy Services and the Director of Efficiency Smart to ensure alignment of organizational efforts with VEIC’s growth strategy
  • Build new strategic and innovative partners to expand VEIC’s business and impact nationally and in target states
  • Explore and pitch VEIC projects to foundations to drive new impact opportunities for the company
  • Act as a spokesperson for VEIC, representing the organization at national conferences, with key clients, and with policymakers
  • Lead execution of the growth strategy, including key tactical elements:
    • Map the competitive landscape and develop strategic, coordinated state pursuit plans
    • Assign state responsibilities, state plans
    • Oversee upgrades to business development and marketing processes and systems
    • Measure growth initiatives
  • Oversee corporate marketing and communications to ensure alignment with VEIC strategy, clearly understanding market trends and continuing to build VEIC’s brand. Meet the demands of the overall marketing strategy and expand this team to bring best in class customer insights and creative solutions to grow our impact and meet our mission.
  • Keep abreast with the trends in the Energy Efficiency landscape and contribute to strategic decision making
  • Supervise and guide the work of VEIC’s Business Development & Sales Managers and proposal writers
  • Mentor the Business Area Leads within Energy Services to hone their business development approach and improve results
  • Measure and analyze current and future revenue streams, offerings, and relationships to optimize our business growth and revenue strategy
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of a diverse, inclusive, solution-focused, high trust culture.
  • Other projects as applicable.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Strong personal commitment to the mission, vision, goals, and values of VEIC.
  • BS/BA in business, marketing, environmental science, or a related field; Master’s degree (MBA) preferred, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills were acquired.
  • Experience includes 15+ years of progressive leadership, demonstrating a track record of growing a network, successful business development, and innovation in bringing new services or products to the market to meet changing customer/client needs. Also, a minimum of 10 years of supervisory experience is required.
  • Impeccable integrity, honesty, and a reputation for a balanced, non-ideological approach. Creativity and a record of taking risks. Willingness to challenge conventional thinking coupled with ability to partner effectively and bridge philosophies.
  • A well-developed sense of strategy and the ability to effectively communicate and inspire others to follow.
  • Able to demonstrate experience and knowledge of revenue growth and development of not-for-profit organizations
  • Deep understanding of business development planning and execution, including operational aspects of leading an effective business development, marketing, and communications function.
  • Deep understanding and appreciation of best-in-class marketing approaches for professional development organizations and demonstrated experience developing integrated marketing solutions that achieve business objectives.
  • Quantitative thinker with strong analytical skill set. Data driven and knows how to capture and utilize data to solve complex issues
  • Strong financial acumen.

Working Conditions:

Internal – Work is normally performed in climate-controlled office environment, where exposure to conditions of extreme heat/cold, poor ventilation, fumes and gases is very limited. Noise level is moderate and includes sounds of normal office equipment (computers, telephones, etc.).  No known environmental hazards are encountered in normal performance of job duties.

External – Moderate travel is required.
