Business Manager | Full Time


Location: Montpelier, VT, USA

The Business Manager plays a critical role in providing varying degrees of support, oversight and leadership throughout all VCC departments. This position will directly oversee the management and development of Sales and Marketing, Fulfillment, Potting Soil Production, Bookkeeping and Human Resources. The Business Manager will also provide administrative leadership to Compost Operations, Quality Assurance and Project Development.  

The requirements of this position will likely change and evolve with our growing business. We are seeking a self-starter who is able to focus on the big picture and plan for the future development of this business and their own position while keeping up with the necessary  day-to-day responsibilities this position entails. A positive attitude, flexibility and attention to detail are essential for success in this position.

Major Areas of Responsibility:

  • Act as the Human Resources manager. Develop HR roles and responsibilities for the rest of the management team as appropriate.
  • Work with the Sales and Marketing team, with some input from ownership, to develop and implement a multi-year Sales and Marketing plan. 
  • Work with Sales, Fulfillment, and Bookkeeping to continue to improve our order processing and fulfillment procedures.
  • Develop an understanding of all departmental needs and how they may benefit from the utilization of an ERP or other software and guide the vetting and implementation of such technologies.
  • Support ownership with the development and implementation of training programs and in project development.
  • Oversee regulatory compliance documentation and communications

  • Experience in management, sales, marketing, customer service, fulfilment, logistics, and business development. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage complex logistics
  • Strong Interpersonal skills, with a positive outlook, and a sense of humor! 
  • Highly organized with a keen attention to detail
  • Soil science, agronomy, and/or knowledge of fruit, vegetable, flower and/or hemp production 
  • Ability to effectively multitask and manage many interruptions and personalities 
  • Flexibility: able to prioritize and manage workload in an evolving work environment.
  • Motivated and energized to innovate and implement systems to improve internal operations 
  • Experience with data management systems, Excel, Google Suite, and Quickbooks
  • Familiarity with ERP systems preferred, though not required. This position will be overseeing the selection and transition from Quickbooks to an ERP. 
  • Self directed with the ability to troubleshoot and problem solve


Location and Schedule: This position is based out of our Montpelier, Vermont location. Our offices are open Monday through Friday, 8am to 4pm. Some work may be done from home, but the majority will need to be onsite.

Compensation and Benefits: This is a full-time, year-round, salaried position with compensation commensurate with experience. This position includes paid time off, 3% matching IRA, health insurance, dental insurance, eggs, and more.
