Main Focus of Internship:
The Vermont Natural Resources Council is seeking a Legislative Intern to support our efforts to move forward-looking environmental legislation in the Vermont State House starting in early 2020.
The intern will assist VNRC and our partner, Vermont Conservation Voters, in tracking legislation moving through the State House during the 2020 legislative year (January through early May). Duties will include:
- Monitoring relevant State House hearings and reporting to VNRC and VCV staff on results of those hearings;
- Tracking the movements of and changes made to specific bills VNRC and VCV are following;
- Possibly lobbying lawmakers; and
- Additional tasks, as assigned, which could include conducting basic research, drafting bill summaries, and developing talking points or other documents for VNRC and VCV staff to use to advance our issues in the Legislature.
Ideal candidates will have a demonstrated interest in state-level policies and policy-making, strong oral and written communication skills, and be diplomatic, curious, and able to take initiative. Social media experience a plus. Normal schedule is Tuesday through Friday, though the schedule can be flexible for the right candidate. There may be a stipend available for this internship.
