Looking to make a real difference in the community? Care about women in recovery and their children?

Become a Mentor in the Vermont Women’s Mentoring Program. Mercy Connections partners with the Vermont Department of Corrections and others to match trained volunteer mentors with incarcerated or corrections-involved women to coach them while making the transition to sustainable lives in Northwest Vermont and Chittenden County.

Mentors come from all walks of life. They support, coach and function as a new and healthy relationship to women transitioning from very difficult circumstances back to their community. Pairs of women are carefully matched for a mutually successful experience, meet one-on-one and participate together in small group meetings, healthy social events and continuing education. Mentors learn a lot about the present state of incarceration in the U.S. and about how to humanize its face via one person at a time. Friendships are made and lives are transformed through this program.

Interested in becoming a Mentor? Participate in training, Wednesdays, October 2 – 23, 5:30- 7:30 p.m. at Mercy Connections and the last night, Wednesday, October 30, 5:30 – 8:00pm, at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility in South Burlington. Our training program and ongoing support includes mentor support group meetings, education on issues which affect the re-entry process, and healthy social events. This program advocates for criminal justice reform. Women interested in the training do not need to have prior knowledge of the criminal justice system or mentoring experience to participate.
