In this seminar, you will learn the basics of how to choose a path for ownership succession in your business. We will take a close look at four different ways of selling a business: to an outsider, to family members, to managers or to the larger group of employees. While we will get into some technical details the focus will be on stories about each path, told by owners who have been involved in the sale of Vermont businesses. Our lead presenter will be Tim Cope of NFP, with Vermont Employee Ownership Center Executive Director Don Jamison.

**This edition of the seminar will feature two live company stories: that of the sale of Onion River Sports, told by the seller, Rep. Warren Kitzmiller; and that of the transition of TimberHomes Vermont from a partnership into a more broadly-owned worker cooperative, told by Josh Jackson, one of the company’s founders.

Attendance is limited to business owners and key managers. Register via this Eventbrite

Tim Cope entered the life insurance industry in 1979. After having his own firm for almost 20 years, he joined Fleischer Jacobs Group in 1997, which is now part of NFP. Tim’s areas of expertise are Business Owner Exit Planning; Life, Disability & LTC Insurance; Exit Planning “General Contractor” (the person who coordinates the exit plan and other advisors for a business owner); and business insurance such as buy sell, key man, and long term care.

Sponsors of the event are the Regional Development Corporations of Vermont, the Vermont Small Business Development Center, Vermont Manufacturing Extension Center, and the Vermont Employee Ownership Center, with funding provided by the Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development.
