Part of being human is to have some degree of unconscious bias toward others…but we do not have to be ruled by them.

How are these biases formed? How do they impact our decisions? Through non-judgmental discussion and activities, we explore what factors influence how we perceive others. We call these the “lenses we look through” and awareness of them can help us see unspoken (and unknown) assumptions.

Understanding our own lenses makes us better able to identify and address stereotypes, so we can create genuinely inclusive environments. While this discussion is geared toward how unconscious bias “shows up” in the workplace, the content and tools can be used in any part of our lives. This can be a difficult topic to explore. We facilitate a safe and structured discussion, providing all participants with an opportunity to learn the definition of unconscious bias, factual information about how it impacts the workplace, and tools for self-awareness and action.

This workshop is designed for teams of participants. Solo individuals from a workplace will still get a lot from it, however, participating with a colleague will deepen your learning experience.

By the end of the learning experience, participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Deepen their understanding of unconscious bias
  • Increase awareness of their own unconscious bias (i.e. their “lenses”)
  • Understand how unconscious bias impacts the workplace (norms and policies, formal and informal structures)
  • Commit to taking at least one action to mitigate the influence of unconscious bias (at work or in their lives outside of work)

Workshop Fee: $60/individual or $150/team of three
