SUMMARY:
The Product Development Intern supports all activities relevant to new product development, which include technical product evaluation (executing shelf life studies), test method development and execution, ordering and stocking laboratory supplies, creating data collection and analysis templates, shipping and receiving of ingredients and finished products and other duties as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Tests new product prototypes, recording and analyzing the data, reporting of results and trends.
· Assists in the following activities: Ordering and organizing laboratory supplies; maintaining and updating inventory of supplies and equipment; developing a system to ensure all R&D employees can locate lab materials and apparatus; documenting equipment calibration procedures and systematizing information; identifying disposal dates of materials and managing disposition.
· Assists in manufacturing trials at GMCR, Essex and other facilities, as needed.
· Ships, receives and labels all incoming and outgoing products.
· Assists in development and implementation of a standardized master filing plan (hard copy) for R&D information.
· Keeps track of all work activities completed and communicate in bi-weekly memo to R&D team.
OTHER NECESSARY FUNCTIONS:
· Follows all policies, procedures, ergonomic standards and safety requirements directed by GMCR and the department.
· Performs other duties as requested by R&D management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Possess high energy and a strong desire to learn and achieve.
· Background in science field, food and nutrition especially relevant.
· Ability to get along with others, be punctual, and follow instructions.
· Ability to follow GMCR policies and procedures.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
· This position requires about 30% desk work and 70% physical activity.
· Ability to lift 75 pounds frequently with mechanical assistance.
· Ability to lift 30 pounds on a regular basis and 50 pounds occasionally.
· Ability to constantly lift, bend, stretch and stand during entire shift.
· Ability to push/pull up to 1.500 pounds using supplied equipment.
· Ability to frequently kneel, squat, bend, and stoop, twist, and reach overhead with repetitive motions.
· Predominately sedentary light office position with high frequency of keyboarding/computer work required (67% - 100% of the workday).
