Public Policy Committee
VBSR Public Policy Committee Members meet monthly to develop policy and positions either proactively or in response to emerging issues. The committee gets feedback from the larger membership via member surveys, regional policy forums, other VBSR events, and from reactions to the VBSR Policy Blog and the VBSR public policy e-notes while the legislature is in session. Recommendations from the Public Policy Committee are made to the VBSR Board, and the Board votes on the committee's recommendations.
How to Join
The Board appoints public policy committee members. Please contact Andrea, our Public Policy Coordinator, at if you'd like to become a member of this committee.
What the Committee Does
VBSR has limited resources, and can't take action on every issue. The Public Policy Committee uses criteria to determine which issues to concentrate on. A VBSR public policy issue will:
- Affect a broad range of businesses (not just one sector, e.g., retailers),
- Have a direct impact on business in Vermont (not a general social concern),
- Be one through which we can take a creative and pro-active stand,
- Be related to VBSR's mission,
- Have an active member willing to take the lead on the issue,
- Have a feasible outcome, and
- Be one where we can make an impact.
