VBSR Testimony on H.589-Trusts for VY Greenfield restoration and spent fuel management
April 1, 2010
When making decisions about energy and transportation, we also need to think about the long-term health and welfare of our society and our environment. Ultimate success requires that we move away from a carbon-fueled energy and transportation economy, move toward renewable and local sources of energy, take aggressive action regarding climate change, and commit to being the first climate-neutral state in the country.
VBSR's 2009 Energy Supply Policy outlines the actions needed for Vermont to increase it's commitment to conservation and the development of renewable energy. The policy also outlines a variety of concerns related to the re-licensing of Entergy Nuclear Vermont Yankee (ENVY) and urges legislators not to tale affirmative action on re-licensing ENVY unless those concerns are adequately addressed.

During the 2010 Legislative Session, VBSR will be working in support of bold policy action to promote energy conservation and efficiency, and the development of renewable energy. In 2009, VBSR advocated in support of H.446, which contained numerous provisions including "standard offer contracts" and clean energy assessment districts- both key components of VBSR's 2009 policy agenda. VBSR also advocated strongly in support of H.436, the Vermont Yankee Decommissioning Bil, which passed the legislature but was vetoed by the Governor.
