Public Policy Detail
Increased priority given to waste reduction efforts funded by state dollars to support programs to reduce the toxicity and volume of the waste stream. In cooperation with other Northeastern States, we should seek out and develop specific initiatives to regulate packaging to make it more recyclable, reusable or to minimize it, where economically feasible. We should provide priority support from State funding for business to place high emphasis on industry which produces or markets "green" products. We should also develop funding for recycling market development, support for businesses using recovered materials, and incentives to purchase materials made from recycled materials.
We need to make source separation and recycling a required solid waste management practice statewide, and increase the emphasis on market development for recyclables and the identification of alternative markets.
