ReNew Salvage Receives Grants
Brattleboro, VT
ReNew Building Materials and Salvage has been awarded two grants totaling $85,000 towards the completion of the recycled materials warehouse at their current location off Putney Road.
A grant from the Jane’s Trust for $75,000 is earmarked for work already performed on the 6,000 square foot pole barn made of recycled materials.
A $10,000 challenge grant from the Thomas Thompson Trust will match funds raised by ReNew’s capital campaign direct appeal during the next month. These funds will bring power to the barn, as well as upgrades to the buildings interior.
Erich Kruger, Executive Director, cited several benefits to the community in their applications.
Customers are utilizing ReNew’s materials for:
* Self sufficient food systems such as cold frames, raised garden beds, and chicken coops
* Repairs and upgrades to rental units
* Weatherization using storm windows and doors, insulation sheets and batts, and weather-stripping.
* Essential home repairs
* And to avoid the purchase of appliances on a rental basis.
Social service agencies that send their clients to ReNew see their clients gain confidence and flourish in as team environment, leaving with skills they can take to the larger job market.
In a recent note from US Senator Peter Welch, he writes “Congratulations on the construction of the barn, (which is) so important to the continuation of your excellent work.”
“We are honored to receive this support by these highly regarded organizations during an exciting time in ReNew’s growth,” says Steve Mindel, Board President.
ReNew Salvage is a non-profit community organization whose mission is to divert usable construction materials from the landfill through deconstruction. ReNew supports affordable housing creation and maintenance, and provide job skills training.
