Clean Energy Development Fund Awards More Than $3 Million For Renewable Energy Projects ARRA Stimulus Projects Funded in This Grant Round

Montpelier, Vermont – The Vermont Clean Energy Development Fund Board announced today that the Clean Energy Development Fund (CEDF) will award $3.1 million for renewable energy projects throughout the state. 

 

“All of us on the new Board are pleased to provide the $3.1 million in grant awards to Vermonters for the development of clean, renewable energy in our home state,” said CEDF Board co-chair Sam Swanson. “This is the first grant round in which we have been able to allocate a portion of the $22 million Vermont received from the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) for renewable energy projects, and we’re excited to put these funds to work using our State's abundant renewable energy resources.”

 

The CEDF is funded in part by Entergy Nuclear Vermont under Act 74 established by the Legislature in 2005 to increase the development of renewable energy and combined heat and power technologies. It recently received additional money from the federal government under ARRA.

 

 “We were fortunate to be able to support a variety of renewable energy technologies and companies across a wide geographic area,” said Robert Dostis, co-chair of the CEDF Board. “The quality of the projects proposed was impressive, ranging from a wastewater treatment facility digester in Brattleboro to a biomass demonstration project in Coventry to a geothermal project in Burlington.”

 

The CEDF received 51 proposals seeking $5.3 million in funding, in response to the CEDF grant solicitation issued in August.  Applicants submitted proposals for projects in the following categories:  Pre-Project Financial Assistance, Small-Scale Systems, Large-Scale Systems, Community-Scale Systems, and Special Demonstration Projects.  There was a maximum grant award of $100,000 for Pre-Project Financial Assistance, $60,000 for Small-Scale Systems, $250,000 for Large-Scale Systems, and $500,000 Community-Scale Systems. 

 

The following projects were selected for grant awards:

 

Pre-Project Financial Assistance:

·           Brattleboro Cogeneration Study, Allard Lumber Co.: $15,000

·           Burlington District Energy Study, City of Burlington: $70,000

·           Middlebury Renewable Energy Study, Town of Middlebury: $25,000 (ARRA)

·           Orleans Combined Heat & Power Study, Clean Power Partners: $25,000

·           Randolph District Energy Study, Randolph Area Community Development Corporation: $41,300

·           Townshend Dam Hydropower Study, Blue Heron Hydro: 25,000 (ARRA)

 

Large-Scale Systems:

·           Applegate, Daly Show, Main St. Mill, Park Place, Passumpsic View, Tuttle Block and

         Willard Mill Photovoltaic Projects, Housing Vermont: $500,000 total (ARRA)      

·           City Market Onion River Photovoltaic Project, City Market Onion River (ARRA): $53,900

·           Norwich Community Energy Project, Town of Norwich: $150,000

·           Bethel Mills Hydropower Project, Bethel Mills, Inc.: $250,000

·           Brattleboro Wastewater Treatment Facility Digester Project, Town of Brattleboro:

         $250,000

·           Champlain College Geothermal Project, Champlain College: $125,000

·          Gates Solar Hot Water Project, Housing Vermont: $193,320

·           Iroquois Acres Digester Project, Steve Ouellette: $250,000

·           Rutland Regional Medical Center Photovoltaic Project, Rutland Regional Health Services:

         $105,000

 

Small-Scale Projects:

·           Pleasant Street Biomass Project, Housing Vermont: $48,000

·           Veteran’s Place Biomass Project, VT Heating & Ventilating Co.: $43,229

 

Community-Scale Projects:

·           Green Mountain Biomass Project, Luke Shullenberger: $500,000

 

Special Demonstration Projects:

·               Coventry Village School Biomass Project, Coventry Village School Board: $190,000

·               Keewaydin Digester Project, Leslie & Claire Pike: $250,000

·               Nathaniel Group LED Project, Nathaniel Group: $33,920
