Event Description
The lecture “Inside Out/Outside In: two tracks to sustainability for an enlightened client” will primarily cover two different FXFowle projects for which Ms. Smith was the lead. While very different in function and constraints, two projects for the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) on The Bronx Zoo campus demonstrate how thoughtful, integrated design can benefit the user and shape enduring, purposeful facilities. FXFOWLE designed both projects: one from the inside out (the adaptive re-use of the landmark Lion House, which opened this past June) and the other from the outside in (The José E. Serrano Center for Global Conservation; opening this fall). The holistic and sustainable design of each embodies the conservation mission and values of the WCS. The synergy between WCS’s mission and mandate, the engineer’s commitment and vision, and FXFOWLE’s architectural philosophy of environmental, social, and economic sustainability led to a dynamic and effective project process.
