Event Description
Entrepreneur Andrew Meyer grew up on a dairy farm in the heart of Vermont’s agricultural industry. Armed with an Environmental Science degree from the University of Vermont and entrepreneurial skill fostered through a decade of experience in agricultural and environmental policy development, Andrew founded and runs two very different Vermont businesses, both deeply committed to principles of sustainability. Vermont Soy, maker of soymilks and tofu, uses organic, fair trade & naturally sourced ingredients, works to keep farm production and processing as much as possible in local communities, and sources its recyclable packaging locally. Vermont Natural Coatings makes high quality, low- VOC wood finish products from highly purified whey--a dairy by-product and renewable resource.
But Andrew’s vision reaches far beyond the success of his two small companies. “In the bigger picture, I’m trying to define the future of Vermont agriculture,” he said. He envisions Hardwick as a hub for a system of sustainable agriculture and value-added businesses. According to Andrew, “We can create markets for each other. We can make money from each other’s waste. This is how Vermont can define itself and maybe create thousands of jobs in the agricultural sector.” Join us to hear Andrew talk about how he and other Hardwick-area businesses are turning their vision for a healthy food system and and a more vibrant local economy into reality.
