Event Description
The work of the Intervale Center in conjunction with small enterprises like take-out restaurant, Sugarsnap, is a wonderful illustration of collaboration to create the kind of economy that sustains Vermont.
As people disconnect from active lifestyles, nutritious food, and the natural world, they become less healthy. Community fabric becomes frayed. Food producers struggle financially while people nearby consume highly processed food products with minimal nutritional value manufactured in distant facilities. The Intervale Center is trying to reverse this cycle by growing viable farms, preserving productive agricultural land, increasing access to local, organic food, compost and other soil amendments, and protecting water quality through organic waste management and stream bank restoration.
Sugarsnap, a take-out restaurant, caterer, and farmer/chef partnership, grows its own produce on a twoacre farm on land leased from the Intervale Center, and purchases many staple crops from other Intervale farms. Join us to talk with Travis Marcotte of the Intervale Center and Abbey Duke of Sugarsnap about the critical role each plays in the local food system.
