Event Description
Keeping Your Mission and Values In a More Complex Business World
Since its founding 30 years ago, Ben & Jerry’s has been committed to the belief that all three parts of the company’s mission—product, economic, and social— must thrive equally in a manner that commands deep respect for individuals in and outside the company and supports the communities of which they are a part. Besides striving for the highest quality products, Ben & Jerry’s has a progressive, nonpartisan social mission that seeks to meet human needs and eliminate injustices in its local, national and international communities by integrating these concerns into day-to-day business activities.
In 2000, Ben & Jerry’s was acquired by Anglo-Dutch corporation, Unilever, causing concern over whether the company’s commitment to socially responsible principles would be softened. Join us to talk with the company’s CEO, Walt Freese, about how Ben & Jerry’s is staying true to its Vermont roots and its three-part Mission Statement while growing globally and operating in the more complex world of Unilever.
