Online communications - are Vermont businesses ready?

By the looks of this forum it seems like there are very few people participating. If my recollection is right, this forum has been online for 9+ months. I know the people in my industry (web site design, search strategies, online marketing, etc) are perfectly comfortable with this form of exchange but what about the rest of the VBSR community? Is this forum doomed to remain empty?

My grand scheme

I have a strong interest in creating beneficial relationships. I’m in Montpelier right now but am planning on moving back to Chittenden county within 2 years - probably to Williston area. I grew up in Essex Jct. so it’s sort of coming home though the area has grown up since I’ve been gone.

From my point of view as a web strategist, developer and consultant, I work to help level the playing field for organizations and companies I feel are doing good in the world. I also share my knowledge and experiences with other people to help expand our collective knowledge, reduce wasted time and expense, and improve their effectiveness. My feeling is that if they can be more effective because of something I’ve shared or done for them, then I’m helping them achieve their goal quicker. In this sense I have my most direct impact on the local community.

But what I don’t have yet and would like is to create and nurture more professional relationships among my peers in the area (Burlington area is my focus since that’s where I want to move but I’m happy to meeting with folks from Montpelier too). I want to meet other website developers, strategists, consultants. I think graphic designers could easily be included too. I think it’s important for us as like minded professionals to share and talk. I also think it’s vitally important for us to reach out to our local schools and help educate our students about our professions. It seems to me that many of our graduating high school students feel there are few opportunities here. It’s frustrating to know this because I feel the same way. I see opportunities for collaboration all the time but lack the time or the energy to pursue them. I think we simply need to talk more and keep sharing and exploring and we’ll find better inroads to building stronger and healthier connections with our communities.
