2013 Recipient: Jan Blomstrann, President and CEO of Renewable NRG Systems
Since 2004, Jan (Blittersdorf) Blomstrann has served as President and CEO of Renewable NRG Systems, manufacturer of measurement equipment and turbine optimization systems for the wind and solar energy industries. She joined the company in 1987 when the wind industry was in its infancy and helped build a global organization that now serves 159 countries around the world. Her focus on workplace excellence and sustainability has created a vibrant organization recognized by the Wall Street Journal, Best Places to Work, the Vermont Governor’s Office, and the U.S. Green Building Council (for its two LEED-gold buildings).
Prior to becoming President and CEO, Jan served as Renewable NRG Systems’ Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, driving the creation of the company’s financial systems, unique compensation package, and hiring and leadership development programs. Over the past twenty years she has helped shape the wind industry as it moved from a fringe sector to a mainstream source of power. In 2006, she was the first woman to be named Wind Woman of the Year by the Women of Wind Energy (WoWE), an organization that supports the recruitment and advancement of women in the wind energy industry. She serves on the board of directors for the American Wind Energy Association, the American Wind Wildlife Institute, the Women of Wind Energy, the Institute for Sustainable Communities and the Fairbanks Museum.
About the Terry Ehrich Award
In 2002, Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility began honoring Vermont's outstanding practitioners of social responsiblity in business in fond memory of late VBSR board member, Terry Ehrich. Terry was genuinely concerned about the well-being of his employees, generous with his time as a friend and concerned citizen, and successful with his business, Hemmings Motor News . He also started the First Day Foundation to encourage greater parental involvment in public education.
The Terry Ehrich Award for Excellence in Socially Responsible Business is given annually to a person exemplifying Terry Ehrich’s sustained commitment to the environment, workplace, progressive public policy, and community.
