Meet the Staff

 

Andrea Cohen, Executive Director.  Andrea became the Executive Director of Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility (VBSR) in the fall of 2010. Andrea originally joined VBSR in 2006 as the Public Policy Program Manager. Previous to VBSR, she worked for 16 years at the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources in a variety of management positions involving pollution prevention, resource conservation, and solid waste management. Andrea holds her M.A. in Environmental Science from Antioch University and her B.A. in Psychology and Economics from Vassar College. Andrea lives in Montpelier with her husband Matt Chapman, an Attorney at the Agency of Natural Resources and her 11 year old son Anders.. andreac@vbsr.org

 

 

 

 

Dan Barlow, Public Policy Manager. Dan joined VBSR as Public Policy Manager in the fall of 2010. He represents VBSR members at the Vermont Statehouse, lobbying on topics such as health care reform, clean energy and employment issues. Previously, Dan worked as a political reporter for the Vermont Press Bureau, was the recipient of the 2009 New England Associated Press award, and was a frequent guest on various Vermont news and analysis television and radio programs. Dan lives in Montpelier with his girlfriend, Phayvanh Luekhamhan, and their cat, Luna. He also serves on the Montpelier Cemetery Commission. danielb@vbsr.org

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Scott Buckingham, Development and Communications Manager.  In the spring of 2012, Scott joined VBSR in a newly developed Communications and Development position. Scott brings more than 20 years experience serving “values-driven businesses” and “business-driven nonprofits” and holds an MBA from Boston University's Graduate School of Management (concentrations in Nonprofit Management and Entrepreneurship) as well as a BA in Economics from Vassar College.  He moved to Vermont in 1990 to work with then start-up Seventh Generation and has continued to be an advocate and practitioner of forward thinking management, leadership, and business practices.  Before joining VBSR, Scott was an active member of VBSR's Public Policy Committee and served on the Intervale Center's board of directors, amongst other volunteer activities and associations. Scott lives on a small farm in Hinesburg, Vermont with his wife, Suzanne, and is an avid gardener, telemark skier, adventure racer, ski patroller, and closet musician.  scottb@vbsr.org

 

 

 

 

Russ Elek, Program Assistant. Russ Elek, an Ohio native, moved to Vermont with his then fiancé (now wife) in 2011 and joined the VBSR team in August of 2012.  As VBSR's Program Assistant, Russ will have a hand in event planning and coordination,  membership relations and organizational communication. He has spent his entire professional career working with non-profits in communication-based roles, and has served on the Burlington Telecommunications Advisory Committee and Burlington Community Development Block Grant Committee. When not in the office or shaking hands, Russ can be found on the golf course, playing basketball or watching Notre Dame Football. russe@vbsr.org

 

 

 

 

 

 

Calen King, Finance Manager & Local First Vermont Program Manager. Calen joined VBSR in October of 2008 as the Office Manager. She now manages VBSR's Local First Vermont program including the Buy Local Book which is produced every fall. In addition, she oversees all financial aspects of VBSR. She was previously with Ben & Jerry’s in Franchise Development and has a background in retail and restaurant management. Calen holds her B.A. in Food and Beverage Management from the New England Culinary Institute. Originally from Shrewsbury, Vermont, she now resides in Hinesburg with her husband Lonnie and her two sons, Oliver and Mitchell. calenk@vbsr.org

 

 

 

 

 

 

Roxanne Vought, Internship Program and Special Projects Manager. Roxanne joined VBSR in the spring of 2013 as our Internship Program and Special Projects Manager.  A graduate of UVM, Roxanne started her career through a series of internships with Burlington area non-profits, and continued with management positions at Vermont Mozart Festival, UVM Lane Series and Carbon Harvest Energy. Prior to joining VBSR she spent 8 years with UVM Continuing Education, where she helped students of all ages connect with opportunities for learning, enrichment and professional development. A frequent performer and teacher, Roxanne lives in Burlington with her husband, Nate Plasha, and enjoys time outside, in the kitchen, on stage and in the classroom.   roxannev@vbsr.org
